Katharine Nixon is a creative practitioner and stylist, who has a sensorial sensitivity to colour, texture and mood
Katharine has an international schooling background which has given rise to an open and unique perspective on different cultures and ways of life. This means that Katharine wants to present work from the point of view of that culture it depicts rather than forcing a narrative of her own choosing.
In the past she studied Philosophy, English literature and Biology which have fed into her references. This benefits the work because it becomes multifaceted and not something that can be replicated by others. The client therefore can used this visual langage to help the brand identity focus and thing about all areas of interest.
She is an advocate of cross-disciplinary collaboration (science and art) as a result of this and believes innovation comes when unexpected forces join together. This means that work bridges worlds and fills gaps.
As a consequence of completed an Art Foundation Diploma at Camberwell College of Arts, Katharine is comfortable experimenting with drawing, painting and unconventional materials.
With a dance background, Katharine believes that pose and gesture are forms of communication beyond a pretty picture. By directing models into poses that create unusal body shapes.
Katharine is interested in pushing fashion into the emotive aspects and hidden subtleties of the Human Condition, this grounds her work into a space that allows for experimenting in showing the humanity within an image. This benefits the clients by realsiising there is a strong sense of storytelling behind her work.
Being open to accepting ambiguity and the unknown helps us to grow, as individuals and as a society. This belief means Katharine is open to collaborating with anyone and letting her work evolve through these rather working in isolation.
The haptic nature within her work lends itself to digital manipulation as it is free of the flatness of image. Working with digital tools (not AI) helps to freshen Katharine’s perspective and offer something different to other creatives.
